Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Baltimore County, which supports and advocates for Baltimore County’s 600 abused and neglected children, will hold three upcoming information sessions at various locations throughout the region in July and August.
“CASA volunteers are often the only supportive, stable person in a child’s life that he or she can count on. If you live or work in Baltimore County, you can make an impact and help change the lives of these children by becoming [an advocate],” said Gwen Farrugia, Advocate Coordinator for CASA of Baltimore County.
“Children in foster care typically bounce from one foster family to another, from one unfamiliar neighborhood and school to another, and they deserve the stability and opportunity that comes with having a safe and permanent home,” Farrugia said.
CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to provide consistent and caring support for an innocent child involved with the court due to maltreatment.
“Our volunteers commit to a 30 hour training program and a minimum of 12 months of work. Each month, 8 to 10 hours are spent visiting with and advocating for a youth. The time spent as a volunteer advocate can provide some of the most rewarding experiences filled with new challenges, surprises, and self-discovery,” Farrugia said.
The information sessions will be:
- Monday, July 25 from 6:00 – 7:15 at the Owings Mills Library (10302 Grand Central Ave)
- Thursday, July 28 from 7:30 – 8:45 at the Perry Hall Library (9685 Honeygo Blvd)
- Tuesday, August 2 from 6:00 – 7:15 at the Towson CASA Office (305 W. Chesapeake Ave., Ste 117)
