An anonymous donor has given $7,000 to the Loch Raven Network to help homeless students and students in poverty at Parkville High School on Putty Hill Avenue. The donor’s daughter and nephew attended the school.
The donor, who lives in Parkville, specified that funds be distributed to the AVID college-readiness program, the Parkville Pantry, Athletic Department, the Marine Corps JROTC program, and to establish a fund for urgent needs of homeless students at the school.
“This donation will do so much good at Parkville High School,” said Laurie Taylor-Mitchell, president of the Loch Raven Network of Baltimore County. “From assistance with academic field trips to providing food and other necessities, this donation will improve the lives of students throughout the school.”
This year, Parkville High has almost 900 students who qualify for Free and Reduced Price Meals, Taylor-Mitchell said, while 43 percent of students across the county qualify.
The donation came through the R.O. Cook Family Foundation, a Donor Advised Fund of the U.S. Charitable Gift Trust that honors Dr. Richard O. Cook, VMD, known as “Doc” to many, who passed away in 2017.
The Loch Raven Network serves students in need at Loch Raven High School through the provision of food, clothing, educational supplies and other critical items. The network partners with social workers and other school staff to assist homeless students and others in need. The Network is also the financial sponsor for the Parkville Network at Parkville High.
