More information about the disturbance at Towson Town Center on Dec. 26

Some people have been stating/theorizing that the incident at the Towson mall on Saturday night was related to a Black Lives Matter protest. I hadn’t seen anything about BLM in any of the news reports, so I asked the commander of Precinct 6, Captain Jay Landsman, Jr., to clarify this. Here is his response:

“I do not have any information to indicate that this was an organized event at all. These were unsupervised teenagers, who were leaving the mall at one time and became extremely disruptive and disorderly. Multiple officers from Baltimore County and MTA Police as well as MTA buses responded to restore order and clear the area. My officers reported hundreds of kids involved in this disturbance.”

If you support Black Lives Matter, then it doesn’t make sense to associate the movement with disruptive teens who actually have nothing to do with it. And if you don’t support the Black Lives Matter group, then linking them to the teens is disingenuous, to say the least. I don’t recall anyone implying the rowdy crowd outside The Greene Turtle in Towson was part of any political movement. (But here’s a fun game: If it were part of a campaign, whose would it have been?)
