Police reviewing use of force after arrest outside Greene Turtle in Towson

arrestThe Baltimore Sun reports: “The video, taken by a bystander on the street outside the Greene Turtle on York Road, begins just before an officer yanks 19-year-old Zachary Blumenstein to the ground by the arm and climbs on top of him. A second officer rushes over and appears to drop his knee onto Blumenstein’s head.

Read the story here, which includes information about the controversial government loans the Greene Turtle received for its Towson location and Sen. Jim Brochin’s comment about the incident.

If this kind of thing becomes more common, it does not bode well for the revitalization of downtown Towson, which will need the non-college crowd, too, to support its bars and restaurants.

Update: The Sun reports: “Police Chief Jim Johnson said he was concerned about the way an officer repeatedly struck a young man whose arrest in downtown Towson early Saturday was captured on a video that went viral on the Internet.” Read the full update here.

Ah, the scourge of Towson U students. I can’t tell if the guy who filmed the video, who’s saying “It’s necessary” and “Hit him some more,” is being sarcastic or serious.
