By now you’ve probably heard that Towson Town Center implemented a policy last month that bans anyone 17 and under from being in the mall after 5 p.m. unless they’re accompanied by a parent or “supervising adult” who is at least 21.

But many parents are just realizing that the nearby Towson Cinemark movie theater started a similar policy at about the same time. The theater’s policy says kids under age 17 must be with “a legal parent” after 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and the parent must stay and watch the same movie as their kids. (Kill me now.)

A theater employee said one parent could bring his/her child and a small group of friends (so not every child needs his/her parent there), but that one parent couldn’t supervise a large group of kids.senator

The nearby Senator Theater appears to have no such policy.

I’d rather go to the Senator, or the Charles, or the Beltway anyway.

I find this policy absolutely ridiculous. When did being a teen become a criminal activity? Why all the fear? Why not hire more security if they are so afraid? Our teens are paying customers and they have rights. I refuse to patronize this theater but will take my business to the locally owned Senator Theater.

Email the Towson Cinemark at 1072@cinemark.com and let them know that 5 PM on Fridays and Saturdays is ridiculous.
