Tell us about a teacher, assignment, field trip, or extracurricular activity that had a significant impact on you during your years as a BCPS student?

I’ve had a lot of great teachers throughout my years in school. However, I think the teacher who had the greatest impact on me was my AP Psychology teacher, Mr. Olson. Aside from being a phenomenal instructor, he was always willing to help students in the class who were struggling, and he made coming to class every day truly enjoyable!

During your years as a BCPS student, what did you accomplish that you are most proud of?

Of all the things I could list, I’m most proud of my work with my school’s School Programs for the Acceleration and Recovery of Credits (SPARC) program. I was placed in the room to complete my Community College of Baltimore County English 102 class, and I really felt out of place for the first few days. Then I thought to myself, “how can I bridge this gap?”  The answer was obvious. The next day I went to the teacher, Mr. Collins, and told him I’d be happy to work with any students in the class who wanted my help. Since then, I’ve been able to help just about everyone in the class on topics like algebra, geometry, biology, and chemistry. It’s been one of the best, most fulfilling experiences of my life, and I’m grateful for having had the opportunity to help others in an impactful way.

What’s next for you? What are your college or employment plans after graduation?

This fall, I’ll be attending the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA as a geography major.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I hope to work as an analyst at the National Geospatial – Intelligence Agency.

Congrats, Alexander!
