Towson-area students protest gun violence

Students throughout the Towson area left school today at 10:00 to protest gun violence and call for stricter gun-control laws.

Students at Dumbarton Middle Scool were given the opportunity to participate in an activity inside and were told not to leave the building, but many did so anyway — often with the support of their parents.

“I feel like part of the point is that it’s supposed to be a student-led movement,” said Stacy Stoddard, whose daughter attends Dumbarton. “I absolutely think [going outside to protest] is worth a lunch detention.”

The administrations at Towson High and Carver Center worked with the students on the walkout. At Towson High, Professor Tylis Cooper from the University of Baltimore spoke at a student assembly about the power that young people have to create change.
