The Baltimore County Council unanimously approved a bill Monday night that would allow a large Royal Farms gas station at the corner of York Road and Bosley Avenue that neighbors strongly resisted, according to this story by Pam Wood in The Baltimore Sun.
Speechless. Since our county council won’t speak for us, I guess they are against us. Aren’t they our representatives? This PUD is a joke if the project’s supposed “public benefit” can be this small-change throw away: “The community benefit is more than $50,000 for improving a trail, planting trees and installing solar-powered speed display signs.”
Isn’t the project itself supposed to be a “benefit?”
So, county zoning that bans a gas station at that site is not enough to garner respect? Packed-house opposition meetings, petitions and pleas truly fell on deaf ears. Jamenetz is right: This is being jammed down our throats. And it seems that Royal Farms itself might be the true heavy here, standing behind the executive and to the right of Caves Valley. Anyone looking at all of their campaign contributions as well? At Royal Farms’ track record in other communities? (Another comment pointed that out).
Well, I guess I’m not speechless after all, just deeply, deeply depressed.
The best county council, developers money can BUY !!
