Ridgely Middle School on lockdown Monday

2.2kviews

Ridgely Middle School went on lockdown temporarily on Monday because of police activity about a quarter of a mile north of the school. Police said they were looking for kids who had gotten into a fight, and at least one of the kids apparently indicated there was a gun involved. Police said they apprehended the kids but never found a gun. It is not believed that the people involved in the police incident were Ridgely students, though that was not entirely clear.

Below is a letter from the school’s principal:

Dear Parents and Guardians:

This email is to inform you of an incident that occurred today at Ridgely Middle School. At about 1:50 p.m., the school received a report of police activity in the neighborhood.  As a precaution and after consultation with police, we decided to place the school on “Lockdown Status”.

When our school is on “Lockdown Status,” instruction is briefly interrupted while teachers, staff, and students take measures to secure both the school from the outside and their classrooms inside the building.  Lockdown continues until police have resolved the situation and advise that lockdown be lifted. Our school was on lockdown for about 7 minutes, after which the normal instructional day resumed.

The safety and security of our students and school is always the top priority of Ridgely Middle School.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 410-878-7650.

As always, thank you for your continued support of your student and of Ridgely Middle School.

Sincerely yours,

Sue Truesdell

Principal
