Rec council offers camp and adventure-trips for kids and teens

[broadstreet ad=156792]

This summer, Towsontowne and Towson Rec Council will host a variety of half-day summer enrichment programs held at local elementary schools, as well as adventure trips for teens entering grades 6-10. Any student is welcome to attend any of the programs no matter which private or public school he or she attends throughout the school year.

Three schools (West Towson, Rodgers Forge and Riderwood) will host a morning “playground” for students entering grades K-5 which consists of general recreational activities such as arts/crafts, outdoor games, water fun, special activities, and free play centered around a weekly theme and led by BCPS teachers and parents. Anything from making slime to building lego rockets to classic backyard games (think sack races and water balloon relays and whiffle ball), the list is full of simple, silly and fun activities to keep the kids entertained.

More specialized programs are also offered that consist of computer coding and engaging STEM activities offered through Innovative Minds of Maryland.  Young Rembrandts presents pastel and animation drawing. New this year are tennis programs for youth and adults held on Wednesday evenings at the Dumbarton Middle School tennis courts. Cardio tennis for teens and adult will take place at 7 p.m. and is sure to give you a great workout and no tennis experience is necessary.  A fan favorite, Stoneleigh Sports & Games, led by Stoneleigh’s P.E. teachers, offers three different sessions to keep your kids moving!

Art and creative writing workshops at West Towson and Riderwood led by BCPS Art teachers are sure to keep the creative juices flowing throughout the summer months.

And finally let’s not forget the teens. They are a hard group to please but Club 360 adventure trips are just the thing to keep them unplugged and off the couch.  They’ll embrace nature and face-to-face interaction with their peers as they zip-line through the trees, ride trails on horseback, scream on roller coasters, climb water inflatables, float on the Gunpowder, just to name a few. They’ll also give back by participating in community service projects. For our younger ‘tweens’ just entering middle school (entering 6th grade this fall), Club 360 Jr. participants will travel to a different local spot each day for laser tag, mini-golf, bowling, roller skating, indoor trampolines and climbing gyms before finishing up with a picnic lunch each day at West Towson Park.
