Sheraton demolishing pedestrian bridge; Fairmount Ave. will be closed for two days

1kviews

The Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel is tearing down its pedestrian bridge that crosses over Fairmount Avenue and connects to Towson Town Center. The work will take place this weekend, and the county Department of Public Works says that Fairmount Avenue between Dulaney Valley Road and Towson Gate Drive will be closed from Friday, April 27 at 9:00PM until Monday, April 30 at 6:00AM.

An operator at the hotel said no one was available to comment on why it was being removed.

“I am very disappointed with the Sheraton’s decision to remove one of three major pedestrian bridges in Towson,” Councilman David Marks said in an email. “We need more pedestrian connectivity, not less. It’s private property, but a poor decision on their part as Towson prepares to open a new hotel at Towson Row.”

During the two-day demolition, traffic will be detoured to Providence, Joppa and Dulaney Valley roads.
