Councilwoman Vicki Almond and state Sen. Jim Brochin, who are competing against each other for the Democratic nomination in the race to be the next Baltimore County executive, have both landed major endorsements.

Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, a popular Democrat who served in the state senate prior to his current post, today endorsed Brochin.

“He is thoughtful, open-minded and rigorously honest,” Frosh said in a statement ahead of a live event with Brochin. “He is an intelligent and effective advocate for his constituents, and he has been a champion of environmental causes. I believe in Jim’s vision in preserving open space, and providing more recreational centers and activities for our children. He will make a great Baltimore County Executive.”

The Teachers Association of Baltimore County (TABCO) has endorsed Almond. The union had voted for her earlier this month, but another vote was taken Wednesday after the campaign of Johnny Olszewski Jr., who is also running in the Democratic primary, complained of undue influence by the head of the union.

“I’m very proud and very excited,” Almond said in an interview. “I’ve worked for 30 years as an activist in the community, always with education and public safety. So I feel like I got the TABCO vote because I worked hard for it.”

Additionally, today the Baltimore-D.C. Building Trades Unions endorsed Olszewski.

“The skilled craft-professionals of the Baltimore-D.C Building Trades are proud to support a candidate committed to sustainable career opportunities for Baltimore County residents, to the power of community, and an overall better life for the region’s workers and responsible business owners,” Melissa Wells, Baltimore Director of the Baltimore-D.C. Building Trades Unions, said in a statement.

Olszewski has also been endorsed by former governor Martin O’Malley.
