Update: Here is the police news release:

Loch Raven High School was put on lockdown status this morning while police investigated a report of a student possibly carrying a concealed handgun.

The School Resource Officer (SRO) was approached by another student who gave the name of the suspect and reported that he had a handgun concealed in his backpack. The SRO located and approached the suspect, who fled to another area of the school. The SRO quickly activated lockdown protocols and initiated a call for a possible subject with a gun around 11:47 a.m.

Tactical units responded to the school and began searching the building, locating and arresting the known 14-year-old suspect in a classroom, where they recovered the gun on his person. The lockdown was lifted at around 12:30 p.m.

The suspect now faces criminal charges. Students return to classes tomorrow as Loch Raven High School opens under normal operations.
