Today was the last day of operations at the Starbucks on York Road just north of Gittings Avenue, according to a store employee.
The store is closing and the staff is moving up to the new drive through location at York and Regester Avenue, which is slated to open Saturday.
Many people in the surrounding communities are concerned with the impact a drive-through could have on traffic — as well as the safety of the hundreds of children who use that intersection to get to and from school. Others, though, are happy to have the coffee shop nearby.
Del. Steve Lafferty has asked county police to have officers at the site when kids are going to and from school — in addition to the crossing guards — to help mitigate the chance of a child being hit by a car. The request is pending.
