BCPS magnet-school info session this Saturday

340views

BCPS says: The application process for Baltimore County Public Schools magnet programs began on the first day of school, Tuesday, Sept. 5, with the release of magnet program brochures.

Over the next few months, students and their families seeking additional information about magnet programs are invited to participate in the countywide Magnet EXPO!, regional application meetings, and school-based open house events. Applications for magnet programs must be postmarked by Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, or submitted online by 1 p.m. on that day.

BCPS magnet programs are theme-oriented courses of study that provide students with in-depth experiences in specialized areas of interest. BCPS has more than 100 elementary, middle, and high school magnet programs in more than 25 schools across the county. While some magnet programs exist within comprehensive schools, there are also schools whose entire population is determined through the magnet application process. Magnet Programs are viable options for all students, including students with disabilities. Special education services and Section 504 services are available at all public schools, including schools with magnet programs. Transportation to a magnet program is provided if required in a student’s IEP or 504 Plan.

The school system has applied for a federal Magnet Schools Assistance Program grant which will allow BCPS to add new magnet programs in six locations. Grant awards will be announced by Oct. 1. If BCPS receives an award, the following magnet programs will be available for the 2018-2019 school year:

  • International Studies – at Woodmoor Elementary, Middle River Middle, Windsor Mill Middle, and New Town High schools
  • Biomedical Technology – at Overlea High School

For more information, please visit the Magnet Programs website or call 443-809-4127.
