Excellent political reporting. In-depth and informative, the way journalism should be.

Baltimore County Councilmember Vicki Almond, as well as councilmembers Cathy Bevins and Tom Quirk, should be just as outraged that the tree protection resolution they voted for regarding the Towson Gateway site was violated by the county itself when 30 trees were unexpectedly taken down in April.

The PUD process is meant to work with the community, yet it's clear that numerous insufficient and even combative responses from Caves Valley to many community concerns--including 24-hour operation, truck diesel, specimen tree removal, and failure to disclose environmental issues on the public site--has made this longer a valid PUD to pursue.

Current zoning at York and Bosley precludes a gas station there for a reason. Going around that, under the PUD, to force through a project that clearly does not provide a wider public benefit is simply bad government.

In the end, the council should not keep going down a bad path, which would set a dangerous precedent for future similar issues elsewhere in the county. Is this what we would expect from Vicki Almond as a county executive?

This is not a Towson quality project, as the review process has revealed. Let's move on.
