Update: A fundraising campaign has been started to help the family cover funeral costs.
Baltimore County Police say a bicyclist was killed when he was struck by two vehicles on North Charles Street just north of Gittings Avenue on Monday at about 10:30 PM.
20-year-old Aaron Michael Laciny was struck by the vehicles, police say, and then taken to Greater Baltimore Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that Laciny was operating his bicycle in the southbound lane of Charles Street when he was struck, police said. Charles Street is a four-lane road, and Laciny was riding his bicycle in the left lane, police said, nearest to the center line.
Investigators say the vehicle that initially struck the bicyclist failed to remain at the scene of the crash. There may be front end damage to this vehicle.
Laciny was then struck by a second vehicle, police said, and that driver contacted police immediately and remained at the scene.
His bicycle was not equipped with reflectors or lights, and he was not wearing reflective clothing, police said, but he was wearing a helmet.
Investigators are seeking assistance in locating the vehicle that initially struck Laciny. The vehicle that was involved in this collision may have front end damage to its bumper in an area approximately nine inches to one foot from ground surface. If you have seen anything or have any information to provide please call police immediately at 410-307-2020.
