Some Towson-area schools put on alert this morning by police

Several schools in the Towson area, including Rodgers Forge Elementary, were put on “alert” this morning because of a barricade situation in Idlewylde.

A Baltimore County Police spokeswoman said that shortly after 5 a.m., police were called with a report of gunshots at Stone Ridge Court, just off Sherwood Road. A “male subject” was refusing to talk to police but was taken into custody just before 1 p.m. and is now receiving a medical evaluation at an area hospital, she said. Police said the area was surrounded and the situation contained during the time of the barricade.

No one was injured in the incident, the spokeswoman said.

School officials said they were not in a formal lockdown but that staff were told to be on alert.
