Here’s a sneak peek at what the developers have planned for what is now basically a hole in the ground that serves as the parking lot for Trader Joe’s and Barnes & Noble.
Retail Properties of America Inc. plans to blend its recently acquired Towson Square with a new re-developed Towson Circle and, through a partnership with AvalonBay, it plans to add 371 residential units and 75,000 square feet of retail. They will also reconfigure the existing retail into a more “street-friendly, walkable component with markedly increased access and visibility,” and bring the retail from underneath Joppa Road to street level.
Trader Joe’s, as previously announced, will be relocating to The Shops at Kenilworth. An employee at Barnes & Noble said they are staying at their current location.
At a glance, there seems to be some good stuff here: Residences are really needed in the town center, so that’s great news! It would be terrific if they make some of these units, maybe the top floors, condos. People who invest in the community add another layer of stability and support for merchants, and for smart development.
What a fantastic addition!
