More details about the Rodgers Forge Starbucks

starbucks-coffee-logoNew details are emerging about the Starbucks that is planned at the northwest corner of York Road and Regester Avenue.

Councilman David Marks said he has been talking with the developer and has learned the store will have a drive-thru window. He also said this location is slated to be smaller than the store at York Road and Burke Avenue.

“The drive-thru is situated on York Road and away from the residential area, and Starbucks believes the traffic problems at York/Burke will be lessened by diverting some activity south to this current location,” Marks said in an email to the Rodgers Forge board. “Not saying I agree, but passing this along.”

Marks said he is still trying to get information about where Starbucks plans to put the traffic entrances and exits to the property. The property’s zoning allows for a drive-through, he noted.

The parcel of land is zoned “business local,” which is the same zoning as the Starbucks in Perry Hall, which also has a drive-through.

The developer won’t do a community meeting, Marks said, but will meet with leaders of the neighborhoods.

John Rinehart, president of the Rodgers Forge board, said in a Facebook post that the board has not yet taken a position on the Starbucks.

“As the Board of Governors, we must attempt to address all the issues fairly and openly, from the viewpoint of what best serves our community through our Mission Statement, which in part is to preserve the excellent quality of life in our neighborhood,” he said.

An employee at the Starbucks in the York Road Plaza, near the Giant, said they have had heard the rumor that their location will close but that so far nothing has been confirmed.

I looked up Starbucks in the dictionary.
“A condition of hyperdensity, limited but enabling scale of communicative possibilities that converge opportunistically. It occurs when the pressure of an urban environment reaches a critical threshold in cities [and towns.]

Starbucks admits they want to move some of the traffic problems the cause to a predominantly residential area. Wiltondale, Rodgers Forge and Stoneleigh Might work together to try for a zoning change.

Kris,
Did you receive my previous comments or did I loose them?
Most of my objections are an attempt to divert Towson Starbucks traffic problems to a predominantly residential area. And next door to the proposed Starbucks is Central Presbyterian Church. They would be adversely impacted too. Think about it.
