Vote to make Muslim holy days school holidays fails in Baltimore County

The Baltimore County school board tonight voted against a new policy that would have closed schools for two Muslim holy days. Dr. Bash Pharoan has worked for more than a decade to have BCPS close on Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr.

Voting in favor of closing for the Muslim holy days were board members Marisol Johnson, Romaine Williams, Stephen Verch, Kathleen Causey, and Michael Collins.

Voting against closing on the holy days were June Eaton, David Uhlfelder, Charles McDaniels, Edward Gilliss, Ann Miller, and student member Aislinn Bratt.

Board member Nicholas Stewart was not in attendance.
