A Starbucks spokesperson has confirmed that the coffee chain will open a store at the northwest corner of York Road and Regester Avenue, which is now the site of a vacant building that used to be a bank (M&T and Bradford).
The store at 6900 York Road is slated to open next year, the spokesperson said.
There is no word yet on whether it will have a drive-through component, or whether this will affect the status of the shop by the Giant a few blocks south.
This is an absolutely horrible idea. Starbucks has not even moved in and they are already neglecting the property!!! They have not trimmed the bush on the edge of the property which is already an eyesore and accumulating trash and leaves and sticks! If not attended to, this will lead to rats! We have three other Starbucks close by. A fourth is not necessary. It will bring loiterers which have been observed in other Starbucks to the very edge of a quiet residential community. Traffic has already become unbearable on York Rd. with continuous speeding of cars which go unticketed. There is already congestion and noise. A Starbucks will contribute to the worsening of already recurring problems while adding more. The immediate neighbors in the Forge certainly are not happy about this and have all of these concerns and more. Increased crime is a major issue. We certainly have enough already recently without Starbucks adding to it by their very proximity. We have enough concerns about the safety of school children each day without Starbucks adding to it due to increased congestion. I am not living in Baltimore City in an urban environment by choice. For 43 years I have been living in a quiet, suburban neighborhood and would like to keep it that way. If there is any way to keep this from opening here, I am for it!!!
I hope it’s well planned with safety of drivers and walkers taken into consideration. All that said, I think it will be a wonderful addition to the area and how nice will it be to have one more reason to walk and gather in our wonderful community. That block is an eyesore since it was vacated by M&T.
What an absolutely rotten idea. Terrible congestion now that even further puts the children who use that intersection in the morning and afternoon going to and from school. And that is only one of the reasons that it is a terrible idea.
I agree, Art. Prime coffee time is also prime children walking to school time. That is going to be a dangerous stretch of sidewalk.
