State says purchase of Presbyterian Home in Towson probably not feasible

In a letter to Sen. Jim Brochin and Councilman David Marks, Maryland’s Department of General Services said it doesn’t seem likely that the state would buy the historic Presbyterian Home of Maryland in Southland Hills — but it hasn’t ruled it out.

Marks said Tuesday that even if the state doesn’t act, there are other options.

“The preservation of this historic property in western Towson is of paramount importance to me,” Marks said, “and if the state will not act, I will press for either the county or a local owner to buy the home for uses that retain the character of the property.”

The assisted-living facility, which dates back to the 1920s, is closing and relocating to Howard County.
