County officials will be on hand Wednesday to break ground for the Flats@703, a new apartment building in downtown Towson at Washington Avenue and Joppa Road. It will be have five stories, plus another two levels of parking.
“The Flats@703 apartments bring even more great choices for downtown Towson living,” Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said in a statement. “More than 3,000 new apartments and townhomes already have been built or are under construction in downtown Towson.”
The developer, Federal Realty Investment Trust, is paying the county $150,000 in open space fees. It paid $90,300 of that earlier this week. Councilman David Marks said the money will go toward enlarging and improving Towson Manor Park.
“We are hopeful that the Flats project will add a vibrant residential component to downtown Towson,” said Michael P. Ertel, head of the Greater Towson Council of Community Associations. “The site has long been vacant, so we believe the building will add new life to a part of Towson that has been fairly dormant.”
All this development in Towson is pretty exciting. I hope they are doing it right for the long term.
