The Baltimore County Council on Monday approved a $400,000 plan to “green” Patriot Plaza, a cement area in front of the Circuit Court building in downtown Towson.
The plaza “is nearly entirely impervious, with a nonoperational water fountain. The funding approved by the County Council would redesign the plaza, with the goal of a green lawn that is friendlier to the environment,” Councilman David Marks said in a statement.
“Patriot Plaza will become a new green space for Downtown Towson, the sixth park project in the Fifth District since 2010. Anyone will be free to use Patriot Plaza, and it will get a lot of attention during festivals, but the park will have some specific appeal to residents who live in places like The Palisades and the future Towson Row project,” Marks said.
He added that although the idea of an ice rink at the plaza had been discussed, there will be no ice rink.
The greening project is expected to take 12 to 18 months.
I and several people I know thank David Marks for this. Green space within a few minutes walk of our houses is what we need and it builds on the walkable Towson plan. Development of green space adds more quality of life (value) in Towson than unchecked sprawl has.
