Motion to slow STAT at BCPS fails; school board approves budget and Dance’s contract

Baltimore County Public School board member Ann Miller made a motion tonight to slow the technology program known as STAT (Students and Teachers Accessing Tomorrow). She wanted to have a three-year pilot program at current Lighthouse schools (those that are are implementing the new tech initiative) before expanding STAT to all schools. Her motion failed; all board members voted against it except Kathleen Causey, June Eaton, and Miller herself.

The board then went on to approve the full budget. All voted in favor except Causey, Eaton, and Miller.

Does this mean STAT is a done deal? Or can the board still revise?

yes it can be revised and the county council/executive still has to approve the budget. Even if they have received money for the budget, they could change how it is used.

In other news: The $41 million contract for interactive projectors that would link to the laptops and digital curricula under STAT was not approved, and is going out for rebid. The sound management system will be handled separately. The total cost for the in-classroom projectors–likely to be determined within a year–is unknown.
