There’s a discussion on the local NextDoor site about tipping the trash collectors. So, how much do you tip? (Do you tip?) And how do you do it? Hand it to them? Leave it out? What’s your process? Who else do you tip? Mail carrier, etc.? Leave a comment below.
The trash collectors come so early on my block that I find it difficult to manage a tip. I just don’t feel comfortable leaving an envelope in the ally.
I leave three Twenties in an envelope on my garbage can. I’m not home when they come. I leave a Ten in mailbox for mailman.
It seems like an interesting idea, but how would someone deliver the tip? Walk out there with an envelope, and let the guys split it? Also, would this lead to better service, because I’m not always happy with the trash collection.
I’ve given mail carriers and trash collectors treats before – some Christmas cookies, for instance. I’ve either left it out or, if I’ve been home and able to spot them, run out and given it to them. What I find challenging about mail carriers is knowing whether it’s my regular carrier or someone covering holiday hours.
