Michael Phelps is Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsman of the Year”

Sun: Rodgers Forge native Michael Phelps was named the 2008 Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated today, becoming the first Olympian to earn the honor since speedskaters Bonnie Blair (United States) and Johann Olav Koss (Norway) shared it in 1994. The last Maryland athlete named Sportsman of the Year was former Oriole Cal Ripken Jr. in 1995. —more

GOtta say that I really thought Bolt would get this title. Oh well, congrats to Phelps – he is pretty awesome.
